Disability awareness day 10th anniversary
The largest disability
awareness event of its kind in Europe was hailed a huge success as thousands
flocked to the 10th anniversary event of the Warrington Disability Awareness
Day (DAD) on Sunday 22nd July at Walton Gardens. Since its launch by disability
campaigner Dave Thompson, himself confined to a wheelchair after breaking his
neck playing American football.
The event has grown in stature and attracted nearly 300 exhibitors - many offering services or
facilities to help the disabled.

Sunday marked the end of a week long of
activities and events in the park and around the town, all aimed at tackling
and highlighting disability issues. Dave, who was recently awarded the MBE for
his work with the disabled, said: "We've had more exhibitors than ever before
and the event just gets bigger each year. "I would like to thank all the
volunteers who have put time and effort into helping organise the event." An
estimated 20,000 visitors descended on Walton Gardens.
